†††††††††††††††† Now and Then

Late in the afternoon, we walk along the shore.

Light always fades too soon, and leaves us wanting more.

We go chasing after wisps of wind,

And seagulls on the strand,

We lie gazing at the inland sea,

Left breathless on the sand.

Late evening August moon throws shadows on my soul.

Mind journeys restlessly to worlds I used to know.

There I see myself in memory,

A child so lost to fears,

And the one whoíd always comfort me,

And dry my childish tears.

††† I see her ever open arms,

††† Her love pure from the start.

††† Though that child and her are surely gone, she lives on in my heart.

††† And although our time togetherís done, weíll never be apart.

Come share a smile with me, Iím back now from the past,

Days sometimes seemed so long, yet years flew by so fast.

Letís go chasing after wisps of wind,

The things we cannot hold,

Like these peaceful days and summer nights,

That turn so quickly cold.

††† I see you as you were back when

††† Our love was something new.

††† But you never change in my mindís eye, and this is surely true:

††† I have never known a love so deep as that I share with you.

††† I have never known a love so deep as that I share with you.
